This piece was inspired by the legendary Steven Meisel and his collaboration with the Red Hot Organization for the “Safe Sex” campaign throughout the 1990’s. Together they used art and music to raise awareness for those impacted by HIV/AIDS. I was first inspired by the original poster in the late 2000’s, but never realized its deeper meaning. Revisiting it now and knowing the history, this piece was created to preserve the tireless work others have done and to remind us to honor those souls we lost.
