Alexander Calder poses on a black leather couch with his hands clasped near his chin, in front of a colorful background with various colorful paintings.

Hi! I’m Alexander Wesley Calder, a Milwaukee-based artist with creativity running through my veins. My entire life I’ve been hands on and making things — from birdhouses, model cars, steel bicycle frames, to cosplay costumes. My spirit of curiosity and craft was shaped by the influence of my family: my great-grandfather’s paintings, my grandfather’s woodworking, my mother’s Halloween costumes, and brother’s high school artwork. Creating has never been a hobby — it’s always been at the core of who I am.

Today, my work is a bold fusion of modern pop art, realism, and symbolism, influenced by the structured precision of Piet Mondrian and the vibrant repetition of Andy Warhol. I use acrylics to build high-contrast designs, layered logos, and cryptic symbolism, often weaving in greyscale and realism against bursts of color. My art confronts culture, society, sexuality, and the addictions that quietly shape our lives — from consumerism and social media to status and desire.

Eclectic and cryptic, my pieces live in the tension between seduction and discomfort. Some poke fun at the absurdities of life; others uncover the struggles. All are meant to spark curiosity and emotion — to make you feel something real.

If you’re here, welcome!

My work spans six different series, each exploring a different facet of creativity, identity, and human experience. From playful to introspection, these collections challenge, delight, and provoke.

  • Radiance bursts of bold color, sparking imagination through quirky, unexpected concepts.

  • Introspective delves into the weight of struggle, resilience, and growth within my life. I do my best to capture the shadows and light in bold, layered, symbolic imagery.

  • Restricted Commissioned works that capture the visions of others — one-of-a-kind collaborations that exist for their owners, with prints extending their stories outward.

  • Euphoria dances on desire and identity, exploring queer nudity and risqué themes with playfulness, provocation, and empowerment.

  • Reenvisioned reclaims fragments of the past, reshaping early works — mine and others’ — into bold reinventions.

  • Emergence preserves the sparks of my beginnings, from childhood through my early twenties, where curiosity outweighed refinement and instinct guided every mark.

Together, these series map my journey of becoming. Browse the collections, discover a piece that speaks to you, and let it become part of your story.
